This is a submission to GMTK Game Jam 2026

Deck Defender

This game is made for the 2026 GMTK gamejam. This game is about a pirate that is trying to defend its ship against attacking pirates. Try and stop the attackers from blowing up your ship by defeating them and defusing the explosives. You earn points by killing enemies and defusing the explosives.

Use the ropes to swing yourself across the map in order to get to the explosives much faster before they explode.


controls

  • Move: WASD
  • Interact: E
  • Jump: SPACE
  • Attack: M1
  • Pause: ESCAPE


**The game is made by one person in the span of 3 days, most of the game is made by hand, however some sounds and sprites are from the internet.**

Found the game quite fun! A very nice entry made within 3 days.

Here are my thoughts:

  • I like that you've put up a "dev's highscore", I think it's a nice way to set a goal for the player before even starting the game. It drove me to play for longer to try and beat that score.
  • I think rope swinging was supposed to be more important to the experience. At first, I didn't find it clear it's for mobility, maybe it's lacking a goal for the player (hopping over a gap or a hole in the ship for example). The physics were too chaotic.
  •  A bit strange but I found it cool that the the enemies randomly jump, they feel a bit more dynamic! Also, running on top of a row of enemies' heads was quite fun.

WOAH! Thats a very nice score! Thanks for playing I really appreciate it.
In the beginning of the game the rope is indeed not that important but as the player gets a higher score, the barrels take shorter time to explode so you would need to ignore enemies and swing over them instead.
